Tosyalı sets new world record in low-carbon DRI production

Türkiye's global steel producer Tosyalı continues to grow with over 50 facilities across 3 continents, a total annual liquid steel production capacity of 15 million tonnes, and 15,000 employees. Tosyalı Algérie, the company's facility in Algeria, continues to stand out with its advanced DRI systems that feature lower carbon emissions. Having broken the world production record every year since 2020 with its first DRI module, Tosyalı Algérie achieved yet another record in 2025.

Tosyalı set a new world DRI production record with 2.43 million tonnes produced at its second DRI plant in Algeria in 2025. This record also surpassed the previous highest production world record of 2.28 million tonnes achieved by Tosyalı's first DRI module in Algeria in 2021. Additionally, Tosyalı's first DRI module in Algeria ranked 3rd globally in annual DRI production with its 2025 performance.

This record, representing the highest annual DRI production Tosyalı has achieved to date, also holds the distinction of being the highest annual DRI output from a single module worldwide equipped with MIDREX technology — one of the most advanced technologies in this field. In 2026, production levels exceeding the design capacity are projected at the DRI plant.

Strengthening our position as a global green steel producer

Tosyalı Holding Chairman Fuat Tosyalı, stating that all of the company's investments are sustainability-focused, said: "As one of the world's leading green steel producers, we continue our DRI investments at our Algeria facility, which offers lower carbon emissions. Our Tosyalı Algérie facility, which has broken the world DRI production record every year since 2020, reached the position of having the world's largest twin DRI facility with the commissioning of our second DRI last year. Our second DRI plant became the world's first facility to begin commercial production with the capability to run on both natural gas and, with a minor modification, 100% hydrogen. There were companies in Europe that announced flexible DRI investment decisions around the same time as us. However, we were the first company to make the decision, complete the investment, and begin production."

Tosyalı Algérie, the largest industrial enterprise and exporter in non-hydrocarbon sectors in Algeria, is a mega production complex developed within a five-phase investment plan. Work continues toward the completion of the fourth phase. The complex houses a total of 17 mega factories and a fully integrated port under the Tosyalı Algérie umbrella. Operating with over 5,000 employees across an area of 5 million square metres, Tosyalı Algérie is Africa's largest integrated iron and steel facility with a total liquid steel capacity of 8 million tonnes. When all investments are completed, Tosyalı Algérie will become a fully integrated and fully independent facility producing in every segment of steel with a capacity of 9.5 million tonnes/year of flat and long products in a single complex.
