Fuat Tosyalı: Strategic protection supporting value-added green steel production is essential

Drawing attention to the serious difficulties faced by iron and steel producers in the domestic market as a result of global developments, Fuat Tosyalı said: "On the export side, we are experiencing this unfair competition with China in many countries. Therefore, when addressing this unfair competition from Far Eastern sources, we must develop a holistic approach that considers not only the domestic market but also our export markets, and take comprehensive measures. We are entering a period in which practices that support value-added green steel production and provide strategic protection against unfair competition need to be handled with greater sensitivity. Steps taken with this focus will strengthen the sector's international competitiveness."

"We made investments focused on sustainability, efficiency, and scale"

Stating that as a company that foresees developments in the sector, they have made investments focused on sustainability, efficiency, and scale, Tosyalı said: "With these investments, we continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the global market. We are a company operating at the global level in green steel production, and we are determinedly continuing our efforts to further reduce carbon emissions at our production facilities, especially through our investments in renewable, clean energy sources. In 2025, we took the first step for one of our country's largest self-consumption solar power plant projects with a capacity of 1.2 GW through the first-phase works in Osmaniye. Thus, we will meet nearly 50 percent of our self-consumption from solar. Additionally, our work on using green hydrogen — a clean energy source — in production at our facilities continues. In this context, our second DRI plant in Algeria became the world's first facility to begin commercial production with the capability to run on both natural gas and, with a minor modification, 100 percent hydrogen. We achieve nearly 50 percent less carbon emissions on a product basis compared to our competitors and accepted values. We gather our green steel products under our Tosyalı V-Green brand."

"We increased our global crude steel production by 110 percent"

Tosyalı described their position among global steel producers: "By continuously raising our production and world ranking every year, we are the only company that has been able to sustain this achievement among the world's top 50 steel producers. We doubled our global visibility by increasing our global crude steel production by 110 percent over the past five years and reached the position of the company with the highest crude steel output based in Türkiye. We are Europe's 3rd largest steel producer. We will take firm steps toward our goal of becoming one of the world's top 20 steel companies within the next 5 years."
